Sound of Kintyre - A Magical Place banner

Travelling by car

If you are travelling by car from Glasgow it will take about 2.5–3 hours to reach the Sound of Kintyre.

Take the A82 out of Glasgow and change onto the A83 at Tarbet which will take you all the way to the Sound of Kintyre and Campbeltown. The mountain views along Loch Fyne are spectacular. The road winds over the mountains and along the loch through Lochgilphead, Ardrishaig and Tarbert where you can buy fuel and have a meal. Then the route switches to the western shore of the Kintyre peninsula and the wilder, brighter, open waters of the Sound of Jura run alongside and open out onto the Atlantic Ocean.
